It's Sally our Border Collie's birthday, she's seven today. Felix cumpleaños.
The hottest day of the year so far. Blue skies and our usual mountain breeze is having the day off so temperatures have climbed.
With Jane down in Gibraltar I worked all day processing photographs from the Easter weekend and publishing them in our photo gallery and on the www.benarraba.com website.
The flowers around the house are growing fast and opening before our eyes. In the morning there was a hint of red in the buds of our 'Bottlebrush'. When Jane came home it was beginning to open. She took this great photo. Can you remember red licorice shoe laces?
This is an Angel Pelargonium on the 'Entrada' steps.
A pretty daisy like flower.
Finally Sam one of our Siameses. He enjoys lying in the sun.
Our other Siamese Sophie is more adventurous, and is out in the campo all day returning at nightfall. We have no idea what she does all day. Probably chases bugs and catches mice.
Jane bought Sally some birthday treats. Which we shared with the others.
We walked to the Restaurante Kábilas. A lovely sunny evening spent on the sun terrace with glorious views of the Genal Valley.
We met up with an old friend and our neighbour Pepa. We haven't seen her for a few weeks. She was trimming hedges and gardening.
We walked down into the village.
We called into Bar Andrés Sánchez. Where I had tapas of Hibea. Hibea is cuttlefish, it has a mild fish flavour and when cooked in a light batter is a real delicacy. The boys were in to watch the Barcelona Champions League quarter final.
There was a good atmosphere in the bar. When we left Barca were winning 1-0.
We walked up to Café Bar Guayácan to see Yolanda. We had coffee and caught up with Antonio who used to run the panadería (bread shop) before he retired.
This is Yoly.
Yolanda speaks excellent English so if you're not too sure about how and what to order, it's an excellent bar to visit. Café Bar Guayácan is on the left as you enter Benarrabá you can't miss it. It's a great place for tapas, as are all of Benarrabá's bars. Each offers something different, making it an enjoyable evening stroll to sample their culinary delights. We bumped into quite a number of people whom we hadn't seen for a while. So a lovely spring evening in the village.
The “pretty daisy like flower” is a variety of Osteospernum (native of S Africa)
This last bar you mention is the bar where we had our coffee when we were in the area. As is usual in Spain, the coffee was excellent.
