Friday November 14th 2008 - Gibraltar - QE2 - Botanical Gardens - Sophie
Written by Geoff Forster
06:00 - Up early and we're both going to Gibraltar today.
07:45 - This is Gibraltar from La Linea.

08:00 - We're across the frontier and go shopping in Morrisons, fortunately it's for hot cheese slices for breakfast. Am I sick of shopping.
We walk up to Latinos for coffee.
08:45 - Jane starts work and I walk down towards the port to find a good vantage point to photograph the QE2. The QE2 is in Gibraltar for the last time today. Before she's gutted and turned into a Dubai hotel. Shame.

I try to see if I can get closer but it's moored the far side of another liner and you're not allowed in the port area. (I tried but the Port Security weren't having it, ... wonder if I'll get the wire-cutters back? ;-) )
11:00 - I go back to the car (my Gib office) and process the photos. Then I go to the Lord Nelson to have a coffee and get online using their WiFi connection. I wasn't alone four other 'internet workers' were in there.
In the afternoon I went to the Botanical Gardens.
Photos soon.
We drove home and quickly called into Café Bar Guayacán to see Yolanda, Jane's off this weekend.
We looked for our Siamese cat Sophie by torchlight. She's been missing four days, it's not like her not to return at night.
Unfortunately after a little more searching further out of the village we found Sophie in a trap. She was alive but her front paw was shattered. Trapping in Spain is illegal. Setting a trap anywhere is wicked but so close to the village is both wicked and very irresponsible. Anyone could lose fingers or toes. Many people do each year in Spain. The Spanish courts hand out heavy penalties to those caught using traps.
Emergency Vet's appointment early tomorrow. Poor cat the pain and distress she must have suffered.
Really sorry to hear about this I hope Sophie makes a good
recovery and the culprit/s are caught and dealt with.
It is very irresponsible.!!!!
sorry to read about sophie, trapping is barbaric, we have a cat that lost a leg due to a road accident, they do adapt and recover quickly. all the best, dave
