Miss World Comes Home
Written by Geoff Forster
Miss Gibraltar 2009 Kaiane Aldorino has won the Miss World 2009 beauty pageant.
There is a big pageant scene in Gibraltar.
Also it is one of the few world events Gibraltar can compete in.
Sadly Spain block Gibraltar's applications to join many sporting organisations such as UEFA. Which means Gibraltar's teams can't compete internationally. Which is unfair on their athletes and sports enthusiasts.
No stopping Miss Aldorino though, her win was watched by over a billion people world-wide. It had people driving around Gibraltar honking horns and dancing in the streets.
A few days later a specially hired private jet brought Kaiane home from her victory. She was met at the airport by her family, the Chief Minister, buglers and a piper from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, airport firemen and a few hundred flag waving supporters. Later a parade up Main Street saw thousands cheer her success. We were at the airport to see her arrive.

A good turn-out. We had to go through airport security and be bussed onto the tarmac.

Kaiane's family with Minister Reyes.

Sister Noelle, mother Elke and the wife of Minister Reyes.

Noelle Aldorino.

The Chief Minister of Gibraltar Peter Caruana (Gibraltar Social Democrats). He's half-way through his fourth term. The last election was very close.

The Chief Minister's wife Cristina.
