Wet Wet Wet
Written by Geoff Forster
The driest autumn since we moved here has been followed by the wettest winter. All those complaining at the beginning of December that the campo was dry, have had their prayers answered ten-fold. It has poured down night and day for weeks.
The camino (lane) to the donkeys has been blocked by rockfalls and an arroyo (seasonal stream) has flooded over the road. Four-wheel drives can now make it along the lane but our Clio can't climb over the rocks so we've been walking there with seed every two days. Not a lot of fun in torrential rain.

We were walking home from feeding the donkeys in a storm just after New Year when we heard a baby lamb calling. It had just been born. We searched for a few minutes but couldn't see it's mother or hear any sheep around. It was late afternoon and we had no choice but to wrap it up in a coat and get it home in front of a fire. A temperature close to zero was forecast for that night.
Fortunately we had a feeding bottle which we had used to feed an orphan kitten. We gave the lamb cow's milk that night, but have since bought powdered milk especially for lambs.
We called her "Little Lamb" to begin with but now she has been named Lily.
She is really cute. She needs feeding every three hours. So a lot of interrupted sleep lately.

The weather has improved mid-January and we have had three or four perfect days. Warm enough for t-shirts when walking. Here are a few photos of the dogs and donkeys.

The wet weather has brought out lots of mushrooms. We've collected quite a few. Lovely with garlic and butter. We didn't eat these ones ...

There was a Hebrew market in Benarrabá. Quite a few stalls and a good turnout.

Our neighbour's daughter (right) and a friend.

We've also been to Gibraltar a number of times.

Ocean Village apartments.

Lily is two weeks old today. She has grown well and can now run and jump. She makes me laugh so much, it's as if she has springs in her legs.
Latest News: Jane has had her hair cut. I've shaved off my beard, now that the sun has decided to shine again, to avoid getting a two-tone face later in the year.
Our friend Sebastián kindly gave us some potatoes this morning and then we went with him to Bar Andrés Sánchez for a coffee. He's invited us to his house on San Sebastián day (Jan 20th) after the procession for a drink. Jane has been teetotal since New Years Eve. I've had one or two beers ... but we're both losing weight with a healthier diet and lots of walking.
More lamb photo's soon.
