Bornos

Written by Geoff Forster

Bornos: We drove to Ronda along the A369 road.
Took the A367 Seville road and then a little further on headed along the Jerez road.

We spent te morning in Villamartin before we drove on towards Arcos de la Frontera.
A large truck was behind us, he was very close and started to flash his lights trying to make us drive faster.
We'd just seen Spielberg's film 'Duel' on the TV and were laughing about the similarity. We let him pass, but he didn't go any faster than we had been, he stayed just in front of us. Scary.
Suddenly this great view of a town and lake appeared. I told Jane I wanted a photograph. The truck had also stopped at the roadside Venta above the town ... even scarier ... so we took a sharp left and made an unplanned visit to Bornos. Bornos We parked near a school in a modern part of the pueblo. Bornos Bornos Bornos We were walking towards the lake when we saw a beautiful garden behind some Iron railings. Bornos Bornos These are the Jardines del Palacio de los Ribera. Bornos They were open to the public. Probably 10-2 then 5-8/9. These are the usual opening times in Spain. Bornos Bornos It was very beautiful, tranquil with some lovely hedging, planting and statues.
This Stork was perched precariously on the top of this conifer. Bornos The old Palace added wonderful structure to the garden. Bornos An arty farty shot of tree bark. It was an unusual tree. Bornos Bornos Bornos We were watching the Stork again, when another flew passed and made the first jump into the air. Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos You pass through the palace into a plaza. Here you find the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) and a large church with a tower. Bornos Bornos Bornos We're easily amused ... Bornos There were White Storks nesting all over. Bornos Bornos This man rode passed the church. Bornos Bornos Bornos This street led down to the lake. We didn't have time to walk down to see it. Next time. Bornos Bornos Back to the Palace. Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos Bornos We really enjoyed Bornos. The Jardines del Palacio de los Ribera were definitely worth a visit. We have the truck driver to thank for finding them. Also I have to thank him for the photo below. One of my all time favourites.
