Jimera de Libar

Jimera de Libar: We had visited Jimera de Libar in January 2004 on a house hunting trip and had seen a lovely house that had been sadly neglected for a number of years.
We seriously considered moving here, until we visited Benarrabá and saw the house and views there.
Unusually there are a choice of roads to Jimera de Libar, you can travel along the A369 in the Genal Valley and turn onto the MA508 at Atajate or you can travel along the road in the Rio Guadiaro from Cortes de la Frontera to Ronda (MA549 - 561 - 555) the turn off to Jimera de Libar is well signed.

We parked in the road above. This is a wide tree lined street with plant troughs built into a well made stone wall. Great views of the Sierra de Libar.
We walked around the pueblo the houses are in good condition, there were no really 'rustic' looking character houses left. We remarked on the lack of flowers outside the houses until we came to the top of the pueblo and found this bougainvillea.
We continued our stroll around the pueblo. It was pleasant enough but no great photo opportunities .. until we neared the plaza.
The picture below is of the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) from the plaza the second photo a second entrance to the Ayuntamiento from another street.
The church in the plaza is lovely. Probably the prettiest church we've seen in the pueblos.
This is one of the streets leading away from the plaza. The plaza area made up for the other streets being less picturesque.

We really enjoyed our visit to Jimera de Libar.
A kind English lady called Carol invited us into her house and gave us a cool beer. We chatted together for a couple of hours.
Carol is a artist, photographer and poetess.
She made Jane cry when she read a poem to us about a lost dog.
Her photograohs were excellent.
The next two photographs are views from Jimera de Libar across to the Sierra de Libar.

The last two photographs were taken on the MA508 road from Jimera de Libar to Atajate a lovely picturesque drive. It's a road well worth traveling down if you are planning a trip in the area. I spotted a beautiful male Golden Oriole here!
